Italy crossed Mereb river and attacked Ethiopia

Leage of Nations Assembly met and voted 50 to 4 to
condemn Italy. (Austria, Hungary, Italy and Albania
opposed)

Marshal Badoglio entered Addis Ababa 1757 Italians and
1593 Eritreasn were killed, more than 275,000 Ethiopians
were killed.

Haile Selassie issued a new procamation outlawing
Slavery. Slavery was first outlawed in 1924.

1951 University College of Addis Ababa was opened.
December 2, 1950
by vote of 46-10 in UN Eritrea was federated with
Ethiopia. Union to be achieved September 15, 1952.
October 7, 1951
Dr. Eduardo Anze Matienzo of Bolivia, UN commissioner
for Eritrea announced that Eritrea had accepted the UN
Federation plan
July 10, 1952
The new consitution of Eritrea adopted and ratified on
August 11 provided that Eritrea should have legislative,
executve and judicial powers in matters not reserved to
the federal government
August 28, 1952
Tedla Bairu was elected Chief Executive of Eritrea
September 11,
1952 Eritrean-Ethiopian federation act was signed and
Eritrea became an independent (federated) nation
September 16,
1952 The last British troops left Eritrea

Haile Selassie left Ethiopia for USA
May 26, 1954
Haile Selassie addressed a joint session of the US
congress
December 6, 1954
Haile Selassie returned to Ethiopia after six month
visits in Canada, Mexico, Yugoslavia, Greece, Britain,
France, The Netherlands, West Germany, Sweden, Norway,
Denmark, Switzerland and Austria.
